Farm Fresh News – 6/25/10

Howdy friends,
A friendly reminder to join us tomorrow at the Farm Fresh Market from 8-2. Featured Produce will be: whole head cabbage, green beans, cucumbers, onions, zucchini, radishes, fresh basil, oregano, cilantro, honey that was extracted from the hives at the farm yesterday, lots of eggs 7 so much more that you’ll adore. 
Wiggly Worm ages 2-5 & Tree Topper ages 5-10 will be Tuesday evening WW is 5:45-6:30 & TT is 6:45-7:30 the theme for both classes will be BEES hives to honey, please send an R.S.V.P. to let us know you will be joining us.
Please remember to stop by Marsala’s market to buy a ticket for the Garden Tour this Sunday from 1-5, grab some family and friends to check out the groovy and gorgeous gardens featured around New Town including the organic farm, please see the attached flyer for more details.

New Town Residents Summer Garden Tour – June 27 1pm-5pm

Come see the fantastic gardens of New Town on Sunday, June 27. This is the first of what will be an annual garden tour in New Town St. Charles. The tour will feature 11 lovely home gardens and the New Town Organic Farm from 1pm-5pm. Start the tour off by checking in at the Amphitheater, where you will be given a map for the tour and wind your way on a walking tour throughout New Town St. Charles.

Gardens on the tour feature herb gardens, hostas, rock gardens, native plants, butterfly gardens, and water features. There will be short gardening demonstrations at the New Town Organic Farm throughout the the tour.

Tickets are available prior to the day of the tour starting Saturday, June 12th at Marsala’s Market, 3308 Rue Royale St., St. Charles MO 63301. On the day of the tour, tickets can be purchased at the amphitheater. Tickets are $10 and children under 12 are free. Proceeds will benefit the New Town Trust and help maintain the animals at the New Town Organic Farm.

We are proud to say we have been accepted as members for the Gateway Children’s Nature Connection. We have been assigned “Associate Member” status which indicates that our organization, institution or agency is involved in connecting children and nature and will participate in the future activities of Gateway CNC. The New Town Organic Farm and contact information will be placed on the Associate Members page of their website www.gatewaycnc.org. You can visit this site to find more activities for children and many wonderful resources, we are thrilled to be a partner.

FARM FRESH MARKET – Please join us this Saturday May 29th from 8:00a.m.-2:00p.m. if you are out about and around, stop by to say hey and sip some strawberry lemonade from the cold kettle. SUMMER SWEET U-PICK STRAWBERRIES FOR $3.99 PER POUND, we will have fresh mint, chocolate mint, cilantro, chives, basil, oregano, crisp radishes for your salad, fresh cut flowers, honey, 2-year sun & shade perennials, asparagus fern hanging baskets that were grown from seed. Grab a potted lily as a gift, or in memory of our loved ones. Find many more goodies for this Memorial day weekend at the New Town Organic Farm- we will have yummy recipes available to use our fresh fixin’s.

VOLUNTEERS- KSDK Channel 5 News will be doing a live broadcast starting at the farm at 4:30a.m. on Wednesday, they want to cover the green movement how New Town commits to that as well as the Organic Farm.  Nate will be talking about organic growing methods, rotational grazing, outdoor education who we will teaming with and how important it is as farming in general will have a direct impact on the future.  We have a lot of work to do- to get the farm in tip top shape!  If you have some time to share please let us know, you can come with the family, kiddos, by yourself every little bit helps my friends- Thank you for you Support, and as the farmers like to say “Have a Rooster Rocking Day”

Plot Rental- We now have over 40 beds rented to our Community Garden members- there is still time!!  From now till the end of the season 1/2 plots are $75 and full plots are $150, you can direct seed veggies, herbs, melons, & pumpkins as well as get a fall crop harvest.  Let’s Get Growing!

Wiggly Worm Tonight!

This week only special offer

Howdy friends, we are offering 1/2 bed plot rentals for $50 this week only. We want to encourage you to take part in this very awesome offer- what does this mean? You will become a member of the New Town Organic Farm Community Garden by paying $50 you will have 12 feet of raised bed garden space, the beds are irrigated and enriched with organic matter. This is a great opportunity for a church, school, club, yourself or family to share in the experience of growing your own organic food. We have a limited number of beds available at this cost- this is a $75 discount from the original cost. Please hurry to save you garden spot, why not have an organic garden plot? There is plenty of time to sow seeds directly in the bed, lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, melons, radishes, beans and have a good fall crop as well.

Update for Tuesday evenings Wiggly Worm & Tree Topper class- the class times are Wiggly Worm 5:45-6:30 ages 2-5 & Tree Topper 6:45-7:30 ages 5-10 exceptions of course. Howdy farm friends hope you are enjoying your week, as we wanted to share with you the latest buzz. A friendly reminder to join us this Saturday May 15th from 8a.m.-2p.m. for the first open day of the New Town Organic Farm for the farm fresh market. Bob the beekeeper will be joining us with free honey samples and show and tell goodies, located at the black entry gate, please look for the open flag and come on down into the courtyard.

More information very soon about what we will have at the market as well as a class schedule for Wiggly Worm & Tree Topper classes here at the farm. We will be hosting one Wiggly Worm class ages 2-5 every Thursday at 10:00a.m., until there is a need to have 2 classes, children learn at amazing lengths in inclusive environments. The other 2 classes will be offered every Tuesday evening. Don’t forget to check out the latest edition of the New Town Courier, and grab yourself a Gateway Gardener a free garden publication as our very first professional ad will be featured. You can get these at many nurseries including Hummert’s International.

We are happy to announce we will be hosting Birthday parties here at the farm, there are 2 different opportunities, please contact us for more details to reserve your date today. The farm will also be used as a photo venue, we had a wedding party that took their pictures here and we will be sharing those on the website, they turned out gorgeous. This may include engagement, graduation, family photos & more be creative, for a small fee you can share the picture perfect scenery here at the farm. All professional photos must be approved per the farmers- thank you in advance

Spring hours, classes, and such

Howdy folks we would like to announce the hours for the farm fresh market beginning May 15, 2010.  The market hours will be Saturdays from 8-2, this will be an open air farm fresh market with bundles of herbs, fresh cut flowers, hanging baskets, organic veggie plants,  free-range eggs, Organic Farm clover honey, organically grown produce as available, organic summer strawberries.  You will be able to stroll through getting all the farm fresh goodies that are so good for you.  Will the New Town Organic Farm be teaming with Marsala’s Market?  Stay tuned and catch the latest edition of the New Town Courier for more details.

Eggs- We have 15 dozen eggs right now and freshly harvested farm honey, we will be selling these goodies from the farm house until the market opens on the 15, please contact us to set up a time to swing by.  The free range eggs are $3.50 & the honey is $6.

Wiggly Worm Classes- Will be beginning May 15 there is a 2 & under class as well as a 3-5 year old class every Thursday, please see the attached flyer for more info and be sure to contact Miss Angie to save your spot- R.S.V.P. please.  Please also contact me for the 5 year old and above class coming soon, I would like to see what the demand is so please let me know how old are your kiddos, and if you prefer day or evening.  We are excited to offer this class, from the info you provide we will create something dandy.  If you are 16 or older- adults and would like to volunteer to help with these classes please contact Angie

GROW YOUR OWN ORGANIC FOOD- Rent a plot and make it your groovy garden spot!!  Now is the time, don’t waste another dime on expensive produce grown with harmful pesticides and such.  The veggies you grown will add up to so much- whether it be fresh herbs, crisp lettuce, crunchy carrots, sweet strawberries the options are endless… Know where your food is coming from friends!
